Switzerland TOUR DES MOVERANS
Just getting started | eing one of the most clean, punctual, and expensive countries in the world, Switzerland wouldn’t normally be a candidate for Brokenroads. But I suppose it all depends on the experience. Certainly, taking the tram to the top of the Schilthorn to admire the alps while wearing high heels and sipping a $5 coke is nothing to write home about, but a 52 km hike, in the snow, uphill, both ways, with nothing but cheese and crackers for sustenance, undoubtedly makes the cut. The Tour des Mourverans loop that my friend Stefee Sloane and I completed the summer of 1998 remains the most difficult hiking/backpacking trip I’ve ever undertaken, both physically and mentally. Totally unprepared for the conditions, we tackled steep mountain passes and endless navigational frustrations, but were rewarded with beautiful wildflowers and gorgeous panoramic views. After four long days, we walked away with sore muscles, countless blisters and surreal experiences that we still laugh about to this day. So pack your virtual bags and join Stefee and me on our four-day (mis)adventure.
